My YouTube debut…

I’m embarking on a creative journey for the whole world to see! Ok, a little dramatic? Maybe… but welcome to my YouTube premiere!

Taking on a[nother] new creative endeavour can be both exhilarating and nerve-wracking, and my recent toe-dipping into the long-form video realm (if you can count my first, and only, 2-minute long talking-head video as that…) is no exception.

As an illustrator and designer, I've always been keen to share my creative process. I grew up admiring those art and craft shows like Art Attack and the likes, and absolutely loved them! However, now between client projects and the inconvenience of actually recording everything (while trying to still do the work), paired with the concept of putting myself directly in front of a camera and sharing my awkwardness with the world, it’s a little overwhelming.

I’ve been wanting to get into more intentional video-making for a while now, but kept getting cold feet despite having already invested in the necessary equipment a good few months ago - adhering to the classic “I’ll start next month” motto every time. But still, my aim is to create a space where I could connect with fellow creatives, share my love for drawing and hopefully teach some tricks along the way, and delve into the intricacies (and humour) of design too.

This first video is, as one can expect, far from perfect - but if it’s anything like making pancakes, the first one’s always going to be a dud 🙃. And I’m fine with that. Got to start somewhere, and I’ve finally done it. Even if it is only two minutes long and I had to do multiple takes. Forgot what I even wanted to say. More takes. A sprinkling of tech issues. And realising I hadn’t opened Premier Pro in years to do the editing.

My YouTube “channel” (I’m thinking of it more as a platform at this point) is not just about showcasing my work; it's about building a community where individuals passionate (or just interested) about design, illustration, and creativity can come hang out. It's hopefully going to be a space for some laughter, learning, and shared enthusiasm for the artistic journey we're all navigating, or one day plan to. Or not. That’s cool too.

So as I get a bit better at figuring out this deceptively steep learning curve that is video creation, I invite you to join me on this adventure (and to hold me accountable for actually continuing what I’m starting here).

So, let's turn some nervous energy into creative fuel and see where it takes us.
