Despite offering some of the best service in town, JJ’s dated branding was causing local house-proud customers to choose more modern-looking competitors over his business.
So... it was time for a rebrand!
The new brand identity highlights JJ's dedication to quality and reliable services by incorporating custom retro-inspired graphics to resonate with his target audience in a fun, distinctive timeless approach.

The art direction
Examining JJ’s values and business goals led to going with a retro-inspired approach, emphasising his old-school values of trust and reliability as his point of difference in the market.
Introducing a retro mascot of JJ himself, and illustrations with earthy tones and hand-drawn lines aims to create a nostalgic, yet fresh brand identity to embody these values.
The transformation
From a simple postbox flyer, to stand out brand
We took the original stock image of the man mowing the lawn and reimagined it into a custom mascot illustration of JJ himself. We included his iconic wide-brimmed hat, lawnmower, and a toolbox in hand to reference both sides of the business in a fun, recognisable way.
